Octopath Traveler II is slated for release on February 24th, 2023 for the Switch, and in the run-up to this brand new journey, Square Enix has shared some info on the eight different heroes whose paths you can, um, travel.
We got a taste of what each of these characters will bring to the game in the Octopath Traveler II announcement trailer, released as part of this year’s Nintendo Direct Showcase. While the trailer did a good job of revealing the names of the eight characters and the nature of their jobs, it provided little more information on what we can expect along their paths or how their abilities will play out in combat.
Thankfully, Square Enix has started releasing more details about these characters, and we’ve gathered all the necessary information in the guide below.
Character profiles seem to be released every few days, so keep an eye on this page as we’ll continue to update the guide with everything we know.
Octopath Traveler II Character List
As revealed in the Direct trailer, Octopath Traveler II will see the eight different heroes interact with each other as they travel. The extent of this interaction is currently unknown, but the extent of the overlap makes knowing each character’s unique abilities more important than ever.
Hikari the warrior
The first hero to receive a character profile is Hikari, the warrior whose path is titled A Journey Home.
The official Octopath Traveler 2 website provides a brief synopsis of Hikari’s character, which according to the Google Translate feature reads as follows:
This is the Hinoeuma region where the wind blows dust. You are 21-year-old “swordsman” Hikari Ku. Born as the second prince of the land of Ku, she worries most about the land and its people, who are constantly at war.
The Swordsman has a variety of sword and spear attacks, making him a physically attacking member of the party.
path action:
During the day, Hikari can apply to fight against local townspeople with the field command “Match”. In order to compete against stronger opponents, a certain character level must be reached.
At night, Hikari can bribe other characters with money. The amount each bribe costs depends on the person you are speaking to and what information is required.
Unique action:
By winning a battle, Hikari learns a technique from his opponent which can then be used in future battles.
shadow power:
Hikari seems to have a special ability called “Shadow Power” that unleashes high damage attacks without consuming SP.
Agnea the dancer
Agnea – also known as “the dancer” – is the main character of the storyline “A Journey for Stardom”.
According to her character synopsis on the Octopath Traveler II website, Agnea’s path will be one of the game’s healthiest, traveling across the country trying to continue her mother’s dancing skills:
This is the Leafland region where the rich forest spreads. You are 18-year-old “dancer” Agnea Bristani. Dancing in a small bar in a small country town, you have a very big dream. Your journey begins with a hopeful heart.
The Dancer’s abilities allow Agnea to grant bonuses to her allies, such as B. strengthening their attacks, removing enemy shields and changing the order of battle commands.
path action:
During the day, Agnea can talk to the townsfolk and use the Temptation command to take them on her journey.
At night, Agnea will be able to use an ability to beg for offerings from the locals.
Unique action:
Each Dancer move used in combat grants bonuses to each townsman brought with Temptation.
Partitio, the merchant
Partitio, “the merchant,” is the hero of “A Journey for Prosperity” – a quest to eradicate poverty and achieve a sense of equality across the land.
In the Direct trailer, the character can be found stating, “I’m on my way. I’ll be back as soon as I’ve got rid of that devil called poverty from the world.”
Osvald the scholar
Dubbed the Scholar, Osvald’s storyline was revealed in the original trailer titled A Journey in Revenge.
The character is seen in front of a burning house as his voice says, “The man who took everything from me shall die by my hand.” Can we assume Osvald’s family was trapped in this house? Everything will be revealed when we see his official synopsis.
Throne the thief
There is very little we can currently guess from Throné, ‘The Thief’. We know she’ll be the lead in ‘A Journey for Freedom,’ but what that will actually mean is unclear.
In the Direct trailer, Throné said: “Not again. Not that smell. The Stink of Blood” while a small amount of gameplay footage saw the thief being whipped by her mother.
Temenos, the cleric
Temenos the Cleric will clearly rely on magical abilities in his A Journey into Truth storyline.
From the small amount of gameplay footage we’ve seen of the character so far, it seems like she’ll summon other characters to her aid in battle.
Ochette the hunter
Ochette’s job is that of a hunter, and her plot seems appropriately animal-themed. They will be the main hero in A Journey for Legends, although it’s currently unclear what their abilities will entail.
Castti, the pharmacist
In the role of “Pharmacist,” Castti’s story seems to be all about delving into the character’s past.
Officially titled A Journey for Memories, the Direct trailer encourages that sense of introspection with the character saying, “I need to rediscover who I am.”
At the time of writing, this is all the character info we’ve received for Octopath Traveler II. More will be announced in the coming weeks and we will continue to update this guide accordingly.
