After achieving incredible things with their subcutaneous glucose-tracking patch, health-tech start-up Ultrahuman wants to elevate the way we live with a wearable that literally fits around your finger.

The company is best known for the M1, a simple patch you stick on your arm that constantly monitors your blood glucose (CGM) levels. This little patch worked similarly to the glucose testing kits used by diabetics and was able to give constant, real-time feedback on your glucose levels. You could literally see them gain weight after eating a donut and lose weight after a moderate workout. The M1 was simply a stepping stone for the company, which has much higher ambitions in the healthcare tech space. The Ultrahuman Ring is able to track your metabolism and health by relying on an array of sensors that detect movement, temperature and heart rate.

Backed by an almighty app that can process all this data, the ring gives you valuable metrics, including your motion index, sleep index, recovery score and heart rate variability. In short, this is just fancy talk to see how your lifestyle and choices affect your health and give you insights to make better decisions later. Make the right decisions and you can literally measure your progress. Exit the path and the ring gently nudges you back, letting you see your score plateau. Combined with the M1 patch, the ring gives you insights into your health that no other product or technology ecosystem can offer. No, not even your cutting-edge smartwatch.

Movement Index – The Movement Index has been formulated to help you understand your overall energy expenditure. The score is based on Metabolic Equivalents (METs) and depends on how much exercise you do throughout the day, not just your training for a specific duration during the day.

Sleep Score – The Sleep Score is designed to help you understand the different stages of sleep such as deep sleep, REM sleep, light sleep and wakefulness.

Recovery Score – Get an overview of the current state of your body with the Recovery Score; This serves as an index for your body. It is based on a combination of biometric data such as HRV, heart rate and body temperature throughout the day to help you better understand various body signals.

The Ultrahuman Ring is a pretty slick looking device that fits on your finger, with an edgy and minimalist design. Designed to look less like a wearable and more like a piece of jewelry, the ring comes with a tungsten carbide coated titanium outer case, boasting a beautiful metallic finish, beneath which resides the ring’s electronics, embedded in a hypoallergenic Resin. This effectively makes the ring durable, comfortable and water resistant to 7 feet. The tungsten carbide coating on the outside is 5 times harder than tool steel (like that used in workshop equipment) and makes your ring virtually impervious to scratches and dents.

heart rate tracking, sleep tracking, and movement tracking.

Underneath its small exterior, the size of a fruit ribbon, lies impressive technology. The ring comes with a 6-axis motion sensor, a non-contact temperature sensor, a PPG sensor that detects heat rate, a Bluetooth Low Energy 5 module, and a rechargeable battery that can use the ring for almost a week on a full charge ( although you might want to charge it during the day so it can do sleep tracking at night).

The ring sends data to its companion smartphone app (available for Android and iOS), which then summarizes the numbers and gives you insights on how to better plan your life for better health, sleep and recovery. The magic lies in the fact that you can see your metabolic stats in real time and compare them to stats from the past. This effectively allows you to understand your body’s nutritional needs, sleep needs, and exercise limits, giving you much more insightful control over your health.

The Ultrahuman Ring is available in 7 different sizes, ranging from a US 6 to a US 12, and the company even plans to send backers a sizing kit to help them choose the right size and fit before actually shipping the hardware to them. In addition to the size, supporters can also choose the color of their ring, which is available in Cyber Gray, Bionic Gold, Aster Black, and Space Silver. You also get a wireless charging dock to top up the ring’s battery every 4-6 days. The Ultrahuman Ring starts at $212 with worldwide shipping beginning January 2023…just in time for those New Year’s fitness resolutions!
