House Of The Dragon Producer Sara Hess Called The Internet's Love Of Demons 'Stunning'
Written by adrina

If you keep up house of the dragonthen you know what an absolutely chaotic MESS Prince Daemon Targaryen (portrayed by Matt Smith) is.

His many crimes so far have included stealing his dead nephew’s dragon egg, killing his first wife, ruining his niece’s wedding and later marrying her, beheading Ser Vaemond (let’s face it, he kinda had it) and making his brother king in general Viserys’ life is absolute hell.

But he also looks like it This 🥵.

Despite all of his very shady behavior, Daemon has quickly become a fan favorite. People are obsessed with watching him wreak havoc.

Every week I open hbo and I’m like, “I wonder what crimes Daemon Targaryen is committing today and what I can do to support him.” #HouseOfTheDragon

However, not everyone is feeling the Daemon hype. In a new interview with the Hollywood Reporter, HEAT Writer and executive producer Sara Hess admitted she’s stunned by the internet’s love for his character.

“He’s become an internet boyfriend in a way that amazes me,” Hess said of Daemon. “Not that Matt isn’t incredibly charismatic and wonderful, and he’s incredible in the role. But Daemon himself is… I don’t want him to be my friend! Dad!’ And I’m just like, ‘Really?'”

“How – in what way – was he a good partner, father or brother for anyone?” Hess went on. “You got me. He’s not Paul Rudd.”

Many fans weren’t very happy with Hess’ attitude:

Y ‘ all tried to make us hate Dany which didn’t work, now you want to make us hate Daemon too @ HBO your green agenda WILL NOT WORK!

I don’t understand how people are still surprised when the hot, morally gray character becomes a fan favorite, especially when he’s so defending his wife’s honor

Daemon: “(otto) don’t protect you, I would” & was right – advocates for Luke’s birthright – kills Vaemond for calling Nyra a whore – ascends viserys to throne, crowns him – doesn’t let Maester Laena cut open, Sara Hess: “But how was he a good partner, father or brother???”

This is so damn funny to me because they equate praise with just having fun and supporting a character they like. It’s not about whether Daemon is a good man or a good husband, it’s about how entertaining and funny Daemon is because he’s a villain with charisma. https://t.co/7Rrii0eHkJ

In the same interview HEAT Director Clare Kilner offered her own perspective on Daemon: “I just love that people are so engaged with these characters and I think that’s part of the fun of it. One minute you like someone and the next minute you like someone else. But I’m not surprised. Matt is so risk taker in his performances and he has this little smile and, you know… it’s not your fault! He’s charismatic. People love a villain. But I don’t think he’s particularly a good father or a good brother.”

Additionally, Smith has stated that he doesn’t view Daemon as a simple villain, but rather as agents of chaos. “I love playing a villain… not that he’s a villain, Daemon; I think there’s more depth,” he said in an interview with Extra. “I think he’s just an agent of chaos and he wants to cause conflict, strife and disharmony – that’s when he feels alive.”

Regardless of what you think of Daemon, you can expect great things for his character. “We’ll see a different side of him [in the finale]’ Hess told the Hollywood Reporter. “And right now we’re writing Season 2 and finding out what his relationship with Rhaenyra is? There are many interpretations [in George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood] to.”

I personally think this post puts it best:
