Warner Bros. Discovery is working hard to get the DC Extended Universe back on track after a roller coaster ride over the past decade. And sadly, much of that recent past has been without one of the most important characters in the entire DC catalog – Henry Cavill’s Superman.

Despite appearing as the Man of Steel in the first two DCEU films, Cavill has not been in canon since the disastrous 2017 theatrical cut justice leaguewhich does not contain any new admissions for 2021 Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max. But since then he hasn’t been called back to don the blue suit and red cape for another round of promotions — Warner Bros. even went so far as to field a replacement for his character in late 2019 Shazam!.

While rumors suggest he will be inducted this year Black Adam, fans are outraged by Superman’s prolonged absence from the DCEU, with no sign that he will once again play a key role in the story. And according to a recent rumor, viewers now know who was responsible for that decision.

Warner Bros. held back on Cavill’s Superman

Speaking of on the Black Adam Press tour Dwayne Johnson spoke about leadership change at Warner Bros. Discovery.

Johnson noted that his main goal is having Black Adam was it that “takes care of the fans” This confirms how it took six full years to fully convince Warner Bros. and DC Films to bring Henry Cavill’s Superman back to the DC Extended Universe. Notably, Johnson stated what the studios’ old leadership was like “I kept saying no” to Cavill’s superhero return; The new regime of studios is allowed Black Adam to “Heralding a New Era in the DC Universe” and paint a bright future for Cavill’s Superman:

“This serves not only Black Adam, but the greater DC Universe. But man, more importantly, it cares about the fans, and that’s what you want as the main foothold. And yes, phone calls and meetings, but man, it took years…that was six years to pull this off. I’ll say that again – six years, we started talking about it and they kept saying no. Now that leadership is gone because we’re ushering in a new era in the DC Universe and we’re ushering in an old era.”

Between 2018 and now, the company has been led by four different chairs: Kevin Tsujihara, Ann Sarnoff, Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, the latter two of whom have been the current co-chairs since April 2022. Based on Johnson’s comments: the Warner Bros. “Regime” under Tsujihara and Sarnoff, Cavills didn’t allow Superman to return, while De Luca and Abdy were part of the OK-giving team.

Will The Rock Bring Superman Back?

For a character-performance combo as popular as Henry Cavill’s Superman, it seems a cinematic crime that he hasn’t been seen in the DCEU for so long. Especially since the actor wants to reprise the role in the future, there doesn’t seem to be a good reason Warner Bros. kept Cavill out of the blue-and-red suit for so long.

Dwayne Johnson himself has complained to Warner Bros. Dealing with Superman within the DCEU by bluntly stating that he is “stood on the sidelines for too long” And rumor has it that the Man of Steel is making a return in some form along the way Black Adamit seems right that The Rock is the one who could possibly make the fans’ wishes come true when it comes to Superman.

For now, Superman wasn’t supposed to be in any part Black Adam, it will remain a mystery until the film is fully released in a few days. But the anticipation of getting Cavill’s Clark Kent back in action has fans already waiting to see what actually comes to fruition.

Black Adam hits theaters on Friday October 21st.
