British Columbians are now eligible to get the flu shot, but one of the ways to access it is changing for the first time.
This year, people enrolled in the province’s Get Vaccinated system will automatically receive an invitation to book their influenza vaccination online, just like they can book their COVID-19 vaccines, the province said in a release.
However, people can still stop by some pharmacies to get the flu shot, or they can still call the provincial call center (toll-free) to book their flu shot at 1-833-838-2323.
“Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect ourselves and our communities, and we’ve made it easier for British Columbia residents to do so,” Adrian Dix, Secretary of Health, said in a statement.
“We continue to offer free flu shots to everyone, and seniors can now be better protected with an improved vaccine. To make it even easier, many people can get their influenza and COVID-19 vaccines at the same time.”

BC braces for rough flu season as health experts encourage immunizations
BC health officials have warned of a potentially challenging flu season ahead.
While pandemic precautions have made the last two flu seasons extraordinarily easy, Australia, which experienced its flu season earlier in the year, has had health officials including provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, worst season in five years.
Health officials fear the back-to-school season coupled with eased public health restrictions could spell the same fate for BC
“I strongly encourage everyone, especially the elderly, young children and anyone with underlying health conditions, to get vaccinated for the best protection against the flu as soon as they receive their invite through ‘Get Vaccinated BC,'” Henry said.
“Vaccination against influenza is particularly important this year as our immunity to the virus has waned after two years of low influenza rates.”
The influenza vaccine is free for everyone six months and older, and this year an improved influenza vaccine is being offered free to all seniors aged 65 and over.
Previously, it was only free for seniors living in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and First Nations communities.
BC health officials say it’s also possible for people to receive an influenza vaccine and a COVID-19 case booster at the same time.
