Top Stories: What to expect from Apple in October, iPhone 14 Plus launch and more
Written by adrina

The first week of October is over, and while we’re expecting a slew of hardware and software launches from Apple in the coming weeks, there’s no sign of a media event in the works.

This week also saw the launch of the iPhone 14 Plus, the latest member of the iPhone 14 lineup to become available after last month’s launch. We’re also looking forward to OS updates soon, with a bugfix iOS update likely imminent and a more comprehensive iOS 16.1 alongside iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura, so read on for details on these stories and more!

Apple event unlikely in October, although many new devices are expected

While new iPad and Mac models are expected to be announced later this month, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman believes Apple is unlikely to hold a media event this October.

Gurman said “last month’s big iPhone 14 reveal was probably the right thing for Apple in 2022 in terms of key presentations,” and suggested more new products to follow this year with press releases, media briefings and Apple online store updates would be announced.

Updated versions of the iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini — all with M2-series chips — will be “very likely” to launch before the end of 2022, according to Gurman. He also said an updated Apple TV with an A14 chip and additional RAM “is getting closer and could potentially launch later this year.”

Apple prepares iOS 16.0.3 with more bug fixes after iPhone 14 launch

iOS 16.0.2 was released last month with several fixes for iPhone 14 issues, excessive copy and paste permissions prompts, and more. Now everything indicates that Apple is planning to release iOS 16.0.3 with additional bug fixes soon.

iOS 16

There are several remaining iOS 16 bugs that iOS 16.0.3 would hopefully fix, including a low volume issue with CarPlay calls made on iPhone 14 Pro models, a string of text that crashes the Mail app can, and more.

Apple is slated to launch a 27-inch mini LED display in the first quarter of 2023

According to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young, Apple plans to launch an external monitor with a 27-inch mini-LED display in the first quarter of 2023.

Apple’s upcoming display is said to feature Mini-LED technology and ProMotion support, allowing for a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It’s unclear if the monitor will be branded as a studio display or go by some other name.

iPhone 14 Plus reviews: Multi-day battery life

EU passes law to convert iPhone to USB-C by the end of 2024

The European Parliament voted overwhelmingly this week to enforce USB-C as the common charging port for a wide range of devices, including iPhone and AirPods, by the end of 2024.

Rumor has it that all iPhone 15 models will come with a USB-C port next year ahead of the EU deadline. AirPods cases and MagSafe accessories are also expected to switch to USB-C.

10 new iOS 16 features coming later this year

iOS 16 was released to the public over three weeks ago with a customizable lock screen, the ability to edit recently sent iMessages, and more. And in the coming months, iPhone and iPad users can look forward to even more new features.

Apple says we’ve rounded up 10 new features coming to iPhone and iPad later this year. Many of the features are part of iOS 16.1, which is currently in beta testing, but some of the features are not expected until later in the year.
